SKY HIGH FUNDRAISING
On most days our cheery postman arrives with a large bundle of mail for distribution to various parts of the airfield, today being no exception. It’s always nice to receive a letter from one of our skydivers saying what a great jump they have had and we always appreciate this.
However, this mornings’ letter came from one of the numerous charities that jump with us throughout the year. It was accompanied by one of their newsletters, the front cover of which had a wonderful picture of a lovely lad with learning disabilities who had tandem jumped with one of our military instructors in the early autumn.
Up until that point, Duncan had never even been in an aeroplane but was determined to achieve his ambition to skydive. The thing that struck me most of all when looking at the picture, was the wonderful smile on his face as he did something he thought he might never have been able to do. He overcame his nervousness and took the plunge, jumping from 13,000ft! The newsletter quoted him as saying: “My favourite part of the skydive was jumping out of the plane. I would do it again, I loved it! I feel very proud about my jump and loved showing my video to all my friends”. Duncan has since been awarded his charity’s own ‘Dare Devil Award’. How cool was that!
For us here at Skydive Netheravon it’s a pleasure to be able to help put something back, and help people of all abilities to achieve something they might not normally have ever done. I would encourage all those charities out there who need to raise funds to do something different and persuade your supporters to do a tandem skydive. It’s amazing the money that can be raised as well as an adventure of a lifetime for those that jump.
Skydive Netheravon sits on one of the largest drop zones in the country and we can help charities put their day together. Of course you have the added bonus of being trained by some of the best military instructors around! It’s a fantastic and exciting day out, not just for those jumping but for their supporters, families and friends.
With December already here and Christmas just a stones’ throw away, we are already beginning to fill the calendar for 2016 and our charity days are mounting up. So, as a charity if you would like to do something different next year, just give us a call, we’ll be happy to help pass on that special feeling that Duncan had to your own supporters, and just as importantly, that feel-good factor that goes with helping to raise much needed cash for so many deserving causes. Happy jumping everyone!
“I had a truly awesome experience yesterday, in every way. I was absolutely terrified but felt totally invincible afterwards and I even fell in love with your cameraman, Mike! Cam was lovely too and if I decide to do it again it would have to be with him. It was all very professional, from start to finish. They were a great bunch and I will recommend this to anyone and everyone. I jumped for the MS Trust and secured £723 in sponsorship so far with promises of more to come. It is great to feel alive again.”

"First charity tandem skydive done here last Saturday. Despite being extremely scared, the instructors made me feel completely at ease and in safe hands. Highly recommend anyone doing a jump, to do it here. Would definitely consider doing another skydive off the back of this experience despite my fear of heights and flying. Brilliant day and life experience. Thank you."
